Honoring Lee Wolfson

Dear friends and family,
Our beloved husband and father, Lee Wolfson, battled renal cell cancer courageously for nearly 4 years. His positive outlook, strong resolve and absolute passion for his family and friends fueled him through this difficult journey.
We are hosting the fifth annual TEAMLEE 997 Walk|Run in memory of Lee Wolfson for Renal Cell Cancer awareness. The event, hosted by our entire family to show our gratitude for the excellent care and medical expertise of Lee’s oncology team at UChicago Medicine.
EVENT INFORMATION:
10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Turnbull Woods Cook County Forest Preserve (Glencoe)
Because Lee always gave his complete and full attention to everyone and every endeavor, it is now our turn to carry on Lee’s legacy of love and passion by supporting the research effort at the University of Chicago Medicine.
Throughout the past four walks, we have raised over $94,000 in support of the team at UChicago Medicine. Dr. Stadler, who we have been supporting, built out the program, and though he has now left to work at another organization, his legacy is continued by Dr. Jonathan Trujillo, whose lab is researching renal cancers and immunotherapy treatments.
We invite you to help us support renal cell cancer research at UChicago Medicine by donating to our website and attending the event ($25 suggested donation for attendees). Even if you are not able to attend the event, you can support this important work and help us continue Lee’s legacy.
About the research: Following in Dr. Stadler’s footsteps, Dr. Jonathan Trujillo, in collaboration with colleagues in the laboratory and other disciplines, is exploring the fundamentals behind immunotherapy responsiveness in renal cancers. Inspired by a patient of his who saw an incredible recovery, he aims to determine what factors allowed that patient to respond so well. The goal is to learn from the underlying biology of that individual, as well as others who share certain biological factors, and use that information to make such recoveries more common in other patients. Your generous donation helps accelerate this vital research, shortening the time between insight and discovery, discovery and treatment.
Dr. Trujillo is working to uncover why some people are more responsive to certain existing immunotherapy treatments, and why others are not; this is all aspiring to enhance what therapies we can offer and target treatments more effectively. He has established a project, which needs further funding, that is working to determine which patients will respond best to different treatments so that therapies can be tailored to be most efficient and effective. There is potential for better immunotherapy combinations and more direct targeting if we can understand these therapeutic vulnerabilities.
The support that we can offer has the potential to fuel Dr. Trujillo’s research and enable him to analyze more patient samples, building out a renal cancer biorepository and collaborating with basic scientists across the institution. Our support will go toward everything involved in his work, from supplying basic materials to helping hire new staff members and encouraging cross-lab collaborations with others doing the important work to better understand and combat kidney cancers.
Please help us honor Lee’s memory by supporting the innovative research efforts that will help in the fight against renal cell cancer.
Many thanks!
With gratitude and love,
Naomi, Josh, and Danny Wolfson
