CLIMBING for a CURE
CLIMBING for a CURE...
Upon hitting the 12 year mark following her breast cancer diagnosis, Peggy Brosnan decided it was time to give back.
Peggy knew she wanted to raise money for cancer research, so she reached out to her breast cancer surgeon, Dr. Nora Jaskowiak, the surgical director of the Breast Center at the University of Chicago Medicine, and pitched her big, crazy idea: climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in order to raise money for cancer research at the University of Chicago.
With a goal to support the research that helped save her life, Peggy is determined to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and she has invited Dr. Jaskowiak to join her in the trek (schedule permitting). She not only aims to summit the mountain but also to raise over $100,000 for breast cancer research at UChicago.
Breast cancer statistics are overwhelming. According to the National Cancer Institute:
- Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women.
- 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime
- Breast cancer accounts for 15 percent of all new cancer cases, with an estimated 268,600newly diagnosed breast cancer cases in 2019.
- Approximately 41,760 deaths from breast cancer are predicted in the US this year.
This is where you come in! You can help Peggy in her quest to raise $100,000.
Like climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Peggy’s “Climbing for a Cure” campaign will raise funds to support this research step by step.
