The Institute for Mathematical and Statistical Innovation (IMSI) aims to apply rigorous mathematics and statistics to urgent, complex scientific and societal problems and to spur transformational change in the mathematical sciences and the mathematical sciences community. IMSI comprises a collaborative group of mathematicians and statisticians from Northwestern University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the University of Chicago, where the institute is hosted.
A gift to IMSI helps support programs and workshops that provide fertile ground for interdisciplinary work on problems that have arisen in a number of fields and have the potential for significant impact on society, including those in climate change, health care, quantum information theory, artificial intelligence, data science, economics, and materials science. In addition, gifts may support programs that raise public awareness of the role the mathematical sciences play in addressing significant scientific and social challenges, contribute to education in the mathematical sciences, and strengthen the profession.
