Your Gift to the Chicago Language Center

The Chicago Language Center promotes the study of the more than 50 languages taught at the University of Chicago. Through innovative programming, the CLC increases the visibility of language offerings, incentivizes students to go beyond requirements, and supports the teaching of world language skills at all levels and across disciplines.

The CLC’s expertise in instruction and assessment has driven the reframing of language learning as the development of functional real-world skills. In a globally connected world, language proficiency enhances student engagement on campus and promises heightened opportunities as they pursue academic and professional careers.

The CLC supports the teaching of world languages including introductory and advanced classes taught throughout the Humanities Division; courses that prepare students for their careers; and seminars that deliver the skills needed to read professional and academic resources. The CLC collaborates with departments and programs across campus to foster opportunities for deeper global engagement and is the epicenter of the University’s language learning community.
